The main area of work of an ecologist is the internal environmental audit of an enterprise, which allows preventing environmental pollution.

The training program «Ecology and Nature Management» is aimed at preparing graduates who have the competencies to perform tasks on monitoring and forecasting the state of the environment, assessing the impact on the environment and environmental expertise, ensuring environmental safety in industry and rational use of natural resources.
The program provides for the study of the basics of environmental legislation in the region, methods of monitoring and forecasting natural disasters, methods of forecasting environmental risks. During the training, the competencies necessary for drawing up regulatory documentation on the permissible level of pollution and rational use of resources, developing measures and recommendations for the protection of natural resources and monitoring their implementation are mastered.
To automate information processes, the program includes the study of modern domestic and foreign software products: PC ERA-Vozdukh, GIS Panorama, QGIS, GIS «VEGA-Science», GIS «Axiom», etc.
The profile is aimed at training specialists capable of performing tasks on conducting engineering and environmental surveys, assessing the impact of economic activity on the environment and public health, developing environmental regulation documents, identifying sources, types and scales of man-made impact.
The profile includes studying man-made disasters and their consequences, the basics of organizing and maintaining environmental protection activities in an organization, monitoring compliance with environmental protection requirements and ensuring environmental safety.

Duration of study by correspondence - 5 years
The educational program includes educational and industrial practices. Educational practices take place on the territory of the SSUGIT test site, industrial practices - on the basis of leading enterprises, research institutions of the city and the country.
Graduates have skills in sampling natural environments, conducting instrumental analysis, geoinformation technologies for data processing, including remote sensing materials and filming from unmanned aerial vehicles.
The university is developing a system of continuous postgraduate education, implementing additional professional education.
Environmental problems and ways to solve them in Russia are of national importance, so the profession of ecologist is in high demand.
