Optotechnics is a field of science and technology aimed at research, creation and application of optical and optoelectronic devices, systems and technologies. No modern area of human activity can do without the use of optotechnics: medicine, education, scientific research, security systems, weapons systems and much more. The direction "Optical engineering" is recognized as a priority at the Federal level.

Graduates of the program are specialists in the field of technology related to the development, production, research and operation of optical instruments, devices and systems.
The program «Optotechnics» is aimed at training competitive specialists in the field of development of optical and optoelectronic systems and devices for various purposes. The list of studied disciplines includes: «Fundamentals of Optics», «Physiological Optics», «Laser Optics», «Spectacle Optics», «Engineering and Computer Graphics», as well as special disciplines on the study of devices - geodetic, thermal imaging, medical.
The program profile is aimed at training professionals in the design and construction of modern optical devices and their components. The training program is aimed at developing the competencies necessary for performing professional tasks, including studying the operating principles of various optical devices, product design features, device operation rules, methods for measuring and other work. The program includes mastering the competencies in developing technical requirements and assignments for the manufacture of optical equipment, determining the nomenclature and types of components, determining the operating conditions and modes, and design features of the optical equipment being developed.
Duration of full-time study - 4 years
Duration of study by correspondence - 4 years 6 months
The educational program includes educational and industrial practices.
Educational practices take place in resource centers of Novosibirsk.
Industrial practices take place in specialized organizations of the Novosibirsk Region and other regions of Russia. Students acquire competencies for solving scientific and practical problems in the field, implementing professional activities that determine the readiness and ability of the student to use knowledge from the field of optical engineering when solving practical problems within the framework of professional activities related to determining the conditions and modes of operation, development, design and construction of optical, optoelectronic, mechanical blocks, units and parts, in accordance with the Federal State Educational Standard of Higher Education.
Graduates of this program are in demand at leading enterprises of optical and optoelectronic instrument-making. SSUGT is the only university in the Asian part of Russia that trains specialists in this field. Graduates have the opportunity to continue their education in a master's degree program.
SSUGT closely cooperates with the largest companies in Russia, such as: JSC «Novosibirsk Instrument-Making Plant», JSC «Katod», JSC «Production Association «Ural Optical-Mechanical Plant named after E.S. Yalamov», LLC «Design Bureau «Luggar», JSC «PO «Sever», JSC «Ekran-Optical Systems», SB RAS «Design and Technology Institute of Scientific Instrument-Making», PJSC «Perm Scientific and Production Instrument-Making Company», JSC «Novosibirsk Cartridge Plant», JSC «NZPP Vostok», etc.
