To date, more than 240 graduates have received master's degrees in the field of 12.04.02 Optotechnics from SSUGT. The professional activities of graduates extend to research, development, preparation and organization of production of devices and systems based on the use of optical radiation; the element base of optical, optical-information, optical-electronic technology; technology of production and control of optical, optical-electronic elements, devices and systems, materials for their creation. The direct objects of professional activity of graduates are: interaction of electromagnetic radiation of the optical range with matter; optical, optical-information, optical-electronic devices, systems and complexes; optical technologies for the production of optical materials, elements, optical and optical-electronic devices and systems; element base of optical and optical-electronic devices; software and computer technologies in optical engineering.

Leading teachers of the Institute of Optics and Information Security Technologies, who have academic degrees and titles in optical specialties, a large number of scientific publications and developments that have found application in real projects, as well as specialists from leading enterprises in the industry, are involved in training masters in the direction 12.04.02.

Today, the master's program includes, in addition to traditional ones, a number of special disciplines that reflect the specifics of master's training at the Institute of Optics and Information Security Technologies: intelligent systems and technologies, system design of optical-electronic devices and systems, methods of managing the life cycle of high-tech products, design of secure telecommunication optical systems, computer methods of designing optical systems, methods of digital processing of video images, theory of information security and methodology of information protection, optical and optical-electronic devices for receiving and processing information, design of optical and optical-electronic devices, certification of informatization objects according to information security requirements, etc.

As a result of training, the graduate receives a unique set of professional competencies that allows him to choose an individual trajectory of his future activities.

Technologies for obtaining, storing, processing and protecting information using optical and optoelectronic devices and systems

During the existence of the master's degree program in the direction 12.04.02 Optotechnics at IOiTIB from 2001 to the present, the following specializations (training profiles) have been implemented: «Optical and optoelectronic devices, systems and complexes», «Military optics», «Military optics and optoelectronics», «Information security of systems and technologies of optical engineering», «Life cycle management of optical-electronic devices and systems».

Today - the training profile «Technologies for obtaining, storing, processing and protecting information using optical and optoelectronic devices and systems».

The training profile is based on the integration of two areas of technology: optical and optoelectronic instrument making and information security technologies - and is unique among the master's training profiles in the field of optotechnics implemented in Russian universities. It opens up broad opportunities for graduates to adapt to changes in the surrounding world and society's need for specialists.

Practical training

The Master's program includes three internships: educational (design and engineering), industrial: research and development (R&D), and industrial: pre-graduation internship.

Educational internship takes place at industry enterprises, often at the place of subsequent employment of Master's graduates. It is aimed at consolidating universal, general professional and professional competencies using the example of implementing specific projects, to which the Master's student is involved at the enterprise during the internship, and gives the Master's student the opportunity to correlate the knowledge gained during theoretical training with real tasks.

Industrial internship: research and development (R&D) is carried out at the departments of photonics and instrumentation, information security and other departments of the Institute of Optical and Technical Biology, is distributed, includes four stages (according to the number of semesters in the Master's program), i.e. is carried out in stages during each semester under the supervision of a supervisor and is aimed at conducting research or development on an approved topic, the further registration of which will become the final qualifying work of the master's student (master's thesis). Pre-graduation practice is precisely the stage of registration of the results of research in the completed final qualifying work of the master's student. Targeted training master's students undergo internships at enterprises in accordance with the concluded contracts for targeted training.

Scientific supervision of master's students is carried out by scientific and pedagogical staff of the university, who have experience in research work and professional projects in the field of training. Traditionally, based on the results of the research, the master's student, in collaboration with the supervisor, publishes the main results in journals and periodicals.
