The Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies has completed work on a wall map project called «Jurassic Fauna» for preschoolers and primary school students. The author of the project is SSUGT graduate Ksenia Kartashova. The project was developed at the Thematic Mapping research laboratory under the supervision of Associate Professor of the Cartography and Geoinformatics Department Lyudmila Konstantinovna Radchenko.

The main goal of the work is to create an educational and visual teaching aid that will help children study the fauna of the Jurassic period and understand how life developed on our planet. The map has a bright design, a simple legend, and large symbols that are easy to read from a distance of several meters.

Particular attention is paid to the accessibility of information: the map contains colorful images of animals, and the color scheme is selected to highlight key elements. The map scale is 1:36,000,000, and the cylindrical equidistant projection of Plate Carrée is taken as a basis.

– This project combines scientific accuracy and accessibility for children. The map not only introduces children to the ancient inhabitants of the Earth, but also develops their spatial thinking. Ksenia has done a great job analyzing the materials and creating sketches to achieve the best result. I am sure that the map will become a useful tool in the educational process,
– noted Lyudmila Konstantinovna Radchenko.

The finished map «Fauna of the Jurassic Period» is a modern and attractive manual that can be used in kindergartens, schools and thematic classes. The project demonstrates how cartography can be exciting and useful for the younger generation.
