SSUGT students create innovative software for facial biometric recognition

04 March 2025

A team of young developers from the Siberian State University of Geosystems and Technologies Maxim Blagodarenko, Roman Danilov and Vladimir Kutonov presented new software aimed at increasing the level of security in public and private institutions thanks to facial biometric recognition technology. The project manager is Artem Andreevich Sharapov, assistant of the Department of Applied Informatics and Information Systems. The development is being carried out within the framework of the SSUGT artificial intelligence laboratory.

The development offers a modern solution for banks, airports, schools, universities and other organizations that require high accuracy of user identification. The product is based on advanced deep learning and computer vision algorithms, ensuring image processing speed in less than a second with recognition accuracy of up to 95%.

The software is resistant to changes in lighting and viewing angle, which makes it especially applicable in conditions of mass flow of people. The developers also paid special attention to data privacy issues, implementing modern encryption methods.

One of the key advantages of the project is its scalability and compatibility with existing security and access control systems. This allows for easy integration of new technology into existing institutional systems without significant changes to the current infrastructure.

According to the creators, their solution will be competitive on the market thanks to unique algorithms that outperform foreign analogues, such as Apple's FaceID, Microsoft Azure Face API, and Amazon Rekognition. In addition, the team offers comprehensive technical support and customer training for more efficient use of the product.

– The main goal of our project is to increase the level of security and automation of identification processes in institutions, eliminating the human factor and minimizing the possibility of using fake data,
– said one of the team members.

The project has already received a positive assessment from potential clients, including banks, government agencies, and educational institutions. According to experts, the biometric technology market continues to grow rapidly, which opens up broad opportunities for the development of this startup.
